3 people were shot at the Miami Opera Tower from inside the lobby, which shook high-rise residents from their beds Sunday morning as police began a search for a possible gunman.

The incident took place on Bayshore Drive, just as church services were underway at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral a block away, at about 10:30 a.m.

Police are seeking anyone who saw anything suspicious, particularly residents who live or visited the building Sunday morning. At least five different areas of the condo tower were cordoned off as part of the crime scene, authorities said.

Two of the three victims are believed to have been shot in the lobby. A third victim knocked on a door on the 30th floor asking for help. All three men were transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where one underwent surgery. The other two were in stable condition, according to Miami police spokeswoman Kenia Alfonso.

“This is still a very active investigation. We need anyone who may have saw something to help us,” Alfonso said.

She said investigators do not know if the gunmen were among those who were shot, or whether the shooter could have fled.

Residents said they saw blood spattered in several places of the building and an elevator. The residential elevators were shut down as part of the investigation, but the building was not evacuated, Alfonso said.

“This is really scary,” said one resident who lives on the 14th floor. Other residents who were walking their dogs said they didn’t hear or see anything.

The building, which boasts 360-degree panoramas of the bay and downtown, has 24 hours security. Condos range from $400,000 to $650,000.
