Perry Watkins of Buckinghamshire attempts Guinness record. Perry Watkins uses a dinning room table to try for Guinness Fastest Furniture title. Watkins now waits in Buckinghamshire for Guinness to make the decision.
Watkins drove a dining room table down a racetrack at more than 113 mph. The British inventor may have taken the title away from Edd China and his motorized sofa, which reached 92 mph in 2007. The 47-year-old sales director at a high street shoe repairer drove the Queen Anne table, named Fast Food, twice down a 500m track.
His top speed reached was 130 mph and he averaged 113.8 mph, which easily beat the 92 mph set by China’s sofa. “It was actually worse than I thought it would be. It felt like 200mph,” Perry Watkins said in a statement. Now, he must wait for Guinness to declare him as the official world record holder for the fastest piece of furniture.
His makeshift vehicle is made of a Reliant Scimitar sports car chassis and a fuel-injected 4 liter Land Rover Discovery engine. The engine is boosted by nitrous oxide injection. Perry Watkins placed an elegant setting on the table and the exhaust fumes come out of two silver teapots.
