A 4-month-old baby died after his parents left him in a parked car in the California heat. The parents Jessica Quezada, 23, and Israel Soto, 30, left the child in the smoldering heat overnight as they went into their apartment.
Police were dispatched to the Belle Vista Apartments at approximately 1:30 p.m. on Saturday to investigate. When they arrived, they found the baby still in the car unresponsive. He was given CPR and rushed to Sharp Grossmont Hospital in La Mesa where he was later pronounced dead.
Residents at the apartments were the ones who notified the police when they saw the baby in the car. Both of the baby’s parents have been arrested and charged with child abuse. In addition, Quezada was charged with one count of possession of a controlled substance.
The couple, expected to appear in court on Wednesday, has three other children – ages 1, 2 and 3 – who have all been turned over to Child Protective Services. A county medical examiner is currently investigating the cause of death.
