Two Georgia teens have been arrested for the murder of a baby who was shot in his stroller last Thursday.
On Monday, the two teens appeared in front of a judge on charges of murdering 13-month-old Antonio Santiago.
The public defender of De’Marquise Elkin, 17, and the grandmother of Dominique Lang, 15, are claiming that both boys are innocent.
“My client is absolutely, 1,000-percent not guilty,” public defender Kevin Gough, told The Associated Press while preparing for Elkins’ first court appearance.
Verdell Hunter, the grandmother of Lang told WJXT-TV in Jacksvonville the boy is a baby himself, not a baby killer.
The 13-month-old baby was being pushed by his mother, Sherry West, when the two subjects allegedly approached her and asked her for money. According to West, when she told them that she did not have any money, they shot her baby between the eyes.
“A boy approached me and told me he wanted my money, and I told him I didn’t have any money. And he said, ‘Give me your money or I’m going to kill you and I’m going to shoot your baby and kill your baby,’ and I said, ‘I don’t have any money,’ and ‘Don’t kill my baby,'” she told reporters.
West picked the two teenagers out of a photo lineup that included 24 mugshots. They are both being charged as adults.
