​Brielle Shooting At Restaurant, Suspect Charged

A Brielle, N.J., man has been charged with attempted murder with the shooting of a 35-year-old woman at the Sand Bar Restaurant early Tuesday morning.

Louis Cataldo, 62, who lives in Bay Point Harbour, then barricaded himself inside his home during a lengthy standoff with authorities.

Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office spokesman Charles Webster said tThe woman, who was not identified, remains in critical but stable condition.

Cataldo led authorities on a several-hour standoff at Bay Point Harbour and was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon.

Bud Mayo, a resident of the neighborhood, said officials woke him up at 4 a.m. this morning and told him to evacuate.

“An Ocean County SWAT team showed up and explained to us that there was a shooting in Brielle at 1 o’clock this morning and that they had tracked the shooter down to one of the residences here,” he said.

The restaurant was closed as of around noon on Tuesday and yellow police tape blocked off an entrance. Two Brielle police cars were also parked in the parking lot.

Cataldo was charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and is being held on $1.5 million bail with no 10 percent option at the Monmouth County Correctional Institution. Conditions of his bail also include no victim contact, no returning to the scene and he must surrender his passport.
