George Zimmerman is now without legal counsel because his lawyers have decided to withdraw from the controversial case after he refused to contact them. The attorneys for the neighborhood watchman stated that they haven’t had contact with him and it’s important for a them to have full communication with their client.
In addition, they added that he contacted State Attorney Angela Corey, who will decide if he should face charges, against their advice. However, there has not been a response from Corey’s office after an email and two phone calls were made.
A statement on Zimmerman’s website reads, “As a result of the incident and subsequent media coverage, I have been forced to leave my home, my school, my employer, my family, and ultimately my entire life.”
According to Uhrig, his legal team is concerned about Zimmerman, who he said is “not doing well emotionally” and may be suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder.
Uhrig and Sonner have stated that they are still willing to represent him if he asks them to.
Attorney Ben Crump who is representing Trayvon Martin’s family has concerns that if Zimmerman is not charged, he could be a flight risk.
“At this point, we’re just concerned that nobody knows where he is at. Nobody knows how to get to him,” Crump said.
