Hells Angels member Steven Ruiz, who allegedly killed a fellow biker at a funeral service for a San Jose chapter leader last October, was tracked down in a Freemont hotel and arrested on Saturday.
San Jose Hells Angel chapter president Jeff “Jethro” Pettigrew, who was a best friend of Ruiz’s, was killed during a fight between rival biker gang the Vagos at a Reno casino last year. At Pettigrew’s funeral services at Oak Hill Cemetery, with 3,000 supporters in attendance, Ruiz blamed Pettigrew’s bodyguard Steve Tausan for letting his friend get killed.
A fist fight broke out between the two in which Ruiz pulled a gun and fatally shot Tausan, then fled the scene according to report’s.
Since the incident the Hells Angel’s revoked the membership of Ruiz and he has been on the run ever since, until being caught at a Days Inn.
The manager of the hotel identified a photo shown to him by police after a man checked in 3 hours earlier claiming to be “John Ruiz of Livermore.”
“Mostly we are a business motel and don’t have people from the Bay Area staying here,” the manager said. Ruiz came out and surrendered to police, the manager said.
Ruiz is excepted to be charged with murder and is being held in Santa Rita without bail.
