Kate Middleton engagement coin receives scrutiny from critics. Kate Middleton is featured on a new engagement coin that appears different. For one thing, it makes it look very overweight and less attractive.

Middleton is on the coin with Prince William to mark their engagement. The Royal Mint was unveiled yesterday and was inspired by a picture taken at a polo match. Kate looks chunkier and older and it's receiving a lot of public scrutiny.

William's image looks better except for his hair. Despite the bad coin, it was approved by the Prince and the Queen. Project director Dave Knight said it's the first royal engagement coin ever produced by the Royal Mint.

"We have been recording historical events for over 1,100 years and we're fortunate to be in a role that allows us to add to that legacy. The £5 Alderney coin we have designed is a wonderful way to celebrate and remember the start of Prince William and Catherine Middleton's life together," Knight said in a statement.
