Mark Miscavish Kills Estranged Wife Before Turning Gun On Himself

Mark Miscavish, a retired state trooper, killed his estranged wife inside of a Pennsylvania supermarket before turning the with a shotgun on himself.

The woman, identified as Traci A. Miscavish, 49, had only days ago filed for divorce against her husband, a 15-year veteran of the state police force.

The 51-year-old Phillipsburg resident had a history of violence and had been arrested only two months ago for allegedly abusing prescription drugs and threatening to kill his wife on several occasions.

Miscavish opened fire on his wife at the Country Market in Phillipsburg around 10am Thursday morning. According to Pennsylvania State Police, the enraged husband burst into the store looking for his wife after receiving divorce papers from her only a week earlier.

Officers said in a press conference this afternoon that he found her in an upstairs office of the business, shot her, and then killed himself.
Investigators recovered the weapon, but declined to say how many times it was fired, according to the Associated Press.

Court documents show that the former state trooper had been arrested on January 23 after his wife, who had recently left him and was living temporarily with her moth, returned to their house to retrieve some belongings.

Centre County District Attorney Stacy Parks Miller said that Traci Miscavish believed her husband had been abusing prescription drugs and when she went to take them away, he wrestled her to the ground, pinned her arms behind her and attempted to bind her with duct tape.

The violent husband even pulled out a gun, though a police affidavit said that he didn’t point it at her during any point of the altercation. Still, documents show that he threatened to kill her.

Saying she needed to use the bathroom and have a drink of water, the frightened woman tried to escape the house and ran out into the front lawn. Miscavish followed, and tackled her to the ground and proceeded to drag his wife by her shirt back into the house.

The woman’s saving grace was likely a passer-by, who saw Miscavish trying to drag Traci back into their house and stopped to offer help.

Miscavish was arrested and charged with simple assault, terroristic threats and harassment and spent a week in jail before being bailed out.
