A campaign manager for Republican Representative from El Paso, Marsha Looper, accidentally sent out a spam e-mail that outs the gay son of the politician, who wanted to keep the information private.
Looper herself voted against a civil unions bill in Colorado, and her campaign manager praised her boss in the e-mail for the vote despite having a gay son of her own.
“God is truly to be praised for Marsha Looper because she also has a homosexual son,” manager Lana Fore-Warkcoz e-mail to El Paso’s voters read, the Advocate reports. “Praise God!” Fore-Warkcoz goes on to write in the e-mail, celebrating Looper for amending Senate Bill 2 to “protect” religious organizations “from harm.”
Looper however, was not pleased by the e-mail saying that the private matters of her family should be left out of any policy-making decisions, and that the e-mail had included a member of the family.
She tells the Denver Post, “I’m very, very disappointed. I am disappointed that my campaign manager forwarded an e-mail that would include any member of my family in policy discussions.”
More upsetting for her is the fact Looper’s son, knowing that his mother’s career would thrust their lives into the media had told his mother, he wanted to keep his sexuality private.
“These are very intimate issues. I love my son. I always will. He has said, ‘Mom, I want my privacy,'” Looper told the Post.
It is believed that Looper is one of four House Republicans that is now among House Representative’s that has a gay child, and it has been an unwritten rule amongst the politicians whom it would be the parents of those children to disclose whether they had gay children or not.
There was no word on how Looper handled the situation with Fore-Warkcoz.
