Mexico gang 51 bodies found after two days of digging. Investigators in Mexico found 51 bodies in the ground that are used as a gang dumping site. Most of the 51 bodies found have not been identified, and police in Mexico are on the hunt for some of the gang members.

The clandestine grave site was found last week. However, the Mexican army did not offer any immediate information on how the site was detected. Some reports suggest that the digging started on a tip from an informant and investigators soon uncovered the bodies.

The area sits near the city of Monterrey in Mexico. Monterrey has been the scene of bloody turf battles between a pair of rival drug cartels. Nearly 25,000 people have been killed in Mexico since the government launched an offensive against drug cartels in late 2006.

Alejandro Garza y Garza, attorney general of Nuevo Leon state where Monterrey is located, said the bodies included 48 men and three women. “The majority of these bodies have tattoos of different types that could give us an indication about whether they belonged to one group or another (drug cartel),” Garza said in a statement. Some of the victims from the mass grave were believed to have died as recently as two weeks ago, police sources said.
