Chief Executive Officer of Microsoft, Steve Ballmer, presented the Microsoft Surface at a mystery event on Monday held at Milk Studios in Hollywood, California.
The brand-new touch screen tablet will operate with Microsoft’s upcoming Windows 8 system, owners all have an option of an ARM-based processor or Intel. According to Ballmer, this tablet will head a “whole new family of Microsoft computing devices.”
It has been rumored that the Surface tablet could very well be the first serious competition for the Apple iPad tablet. According to Ballmer’s unveiling and demo, this device has the same capacity of a PC, and is just as good at creating content as it is for consuming.
The Surface tablet will weight 1.8-pounds and be made with 10.6-inch Gorilla Glass 2.0 screen with a density of 9.3 mm. It will operate on Windows 8 and include Microsoft Word, a full-size USB drive, and run a full Windows desktop. In addition, it will come with digital ink that way users are able to use a magnetic stylus for writing
Microsoft has not announced how much it will cost to purchase the Tablet, but they did state that it would be available in by the end of this year.
