A school nurse from New River Elementary in Pasco County has been arrested for stealing ADHD medication from students, but it’s not exactly why she was doing it. The nurse allegedly switched the medicines out for something else.
Kimberly Dawn Smith, 39, resigned from her position after admitting to stealing the medication. She was arrested at her home in Dade City.
The investigation started after parents complained their children were missing pills from their prescriptions. When investigators questioned Smith Friday morning, they said she made some incriminating statements that led to her arrest.
School leaders questioned Smith after a parent noticed their child’s pill count was off.
According to records, Smith has been disciplined before by the Department of Health and had her license suspended. At this time, she doesn’t have an active nursing license.
