Skydiver Missing After Jump Since Thursday, Search Resumes In Washington

A skydiver has been missing since Thursday after a jump from a helicopter near Mount Si in the state of Washington. Kurt Ruppert, Jr., 29, was wearing a “Squirrel Suit” and was last seen over the Cascade foothills, about 30 miles east of Seattle.

King County Sheriff’s Sgt. Cindi West says the man could have landed over a wide area because he was wearing a “squirrel suit” with fabric under the arms to fly through the air.

The missing man and two of his friends chartered a helicopter, so they could take turns jumping. It was approximately 2:30 p.m. when the helicopter pilot reported that the skydiver jumped from the aircraft, from an altitude of 6,500 feet but failed to show up at the landing zone with the other divers.

About 50 to 75 members of the sheriff’s search and rescue unit looked for the man until dark on Thursday and began their search back up when the sun came up on Friday. The helicopter pilot never saw the parachute deploy.
