Teen Gets 5 Years For McDonald’s Transgender Beating

A teen girl was sentenced to 5 years in prison on Tuesday for the beating of a transgender woman at a McDonalds in Maryland. Teonna Monae Brown, 19, plead guilty last month to first-degree assault and a hate crime for beating Chrissy Lee Polis. The transgender woman went into a seizure.

A 14 year-old accomplice of Brown’s had already been sentenced to a detention facility for her role in the beating. The whole incident was posted on a YouTube video shot by a McDonalds employee, who was laughing as the crime was perpetrated. The video resulted in the arrest of the two girls.

“It was one of the worst beatings I have ever seen” said State’s Attorney Scott Shellenberger.

Survellance video also caught the crime on tape. It showed the initial attack with the suspect’s leaving, only to return 15 minutes later to continue the beating.

Brown apologized in-court saying, “I’m sorry. My mother did not raise me like this. I would really like to apologize to the victim, Miss Chrissy Polis.”

The victim, Polis responded in a letter, “I felt like I was going to die that day,” the letter reads. “I continue to suffer seizures, bouts of crying, mental anguish and anxiety. I fear being alone. I have flashbacks about the attacks. I do not forgive them for what they did to me. ”

As for the employee who shot the video, Polis is bringing a civil suit against McDonlads, and the employee for the fact the he did nothing to intervene or report the incident. Instead he just stood there video taping it and laughing the whole time.
