Self-made billionaires 2010 list includes the wealthiest. The 2010 list of self-made billionaires includes Carlos Slim Helu and Bill Gates. The list had a few changes for 2010 as billionaires who are self-made continue to collect their fortunes.

Billionaire Carlos Slim Helu is worth $53.5 billion. Helu is the telecom tycoon that pounced on privatization of Mexico’s national telephone company in the 1990s. He is the world’s richest person for first time.

2010 still finds Bill Gates, worth $53 billion. Gates is now the world’s second-richest man. The Microsoft founder still collected $13 billion in a year as company shares rose by 50 percent in just 12 months.

List also includes the third-richest man in the world, Warren Buffet, worth $47 billion. Buffet, known as America’s favorite investor, is up $10 billion in the past 12 months on surging Berkshire Hathaway shares. He has stated that the U.S. has survived economic “Pearl Harbor,” but warns recovery will be slow.

Lawrence Ellison, Oracle founder, is worth $28 billion. Ellison’s fortune continues to soar; shares up 70 percent in the past 12 months. The database giant has bought 57 companies in the past five years. Oracle also purchased Sun Microsystems for $7.4 billion.

Eike Batista, who is vowing to become the world’s richest man, is worth $27 billion. Batista is this year’s biggest gainer with $19.5 billion added to his personal balance sheet. He is the son of Brazil’s revered former mining minister who presided over mining giant Companhia Vale do Rio Doce.
