A new electric car that is solar-powered has traveled 32,000 miles through 38 countries. The vehicle gave rides to about 1,000 people and can travel up to 55 mph.

The first electric car has completed a trip around the world. The journey took 17 months to complete. The electric vehicle traveled across 32,000 miles powered by solar energy.

“This is the first time in history that a solar-powered car has traveled all the way around the world without using a single drop of petrol,” Louis Palmer, the 36-year-old Swiss schoolteacher and adventurer, said in a statement.

Electric cars are on their way to becoming a reality. Auto markers such as General Motors, Ford, Chrysler, Nissan, and Toyota have all pledged new electric vehicles in 2009 and 2010.

“These new technologies are ready,” he said. “It’s ecological, it’s economical, it is absolutely reliable. We can stop global warning,” Palmer said.

The new electric car can travel up to 55 mph and can drive 185 miles on a fully charged battery. The vehicle is quiet and produces no noise.
