Amanda Bynes decided not to appear for her DMV hearing, even though the judge urged her to appear. Bynes is 3,000 miles away in New York City, but her attorney was present to defend her uphill battle in California. The actress was caught driving on a suspended license and the hearing could determine if she’ll ever drive in the state again.
“She has moved to New York indefinitely to start her fashion line,” a source told E! News. The actress had been spotted over the weekend at various locations in the Big Apple, including a salon.
The news shouldn’t come as a total shock, since Bynes, who says she’s “doing amazing,” recently stated that she has “retired as an actor. I am moving to New York to launch my career.”
At the DMV hearing, Bynes’ attorney Richard Hutton had a lot of explaining to do about his client’s driving record-like why Bynes got a speeding ticket less than a week after her DUI arrest. Earlier this month, she was let go with a warning from pollice for diving without her headlights on just five days after being charged with a pair of hit-and-run counts.
As E! News exclusively reported earlier, Bynes’ license was revoked due to a slew of unpaid tickets and not to her recent DUI and hit-and-run cases.
The outcome of this hearing will not be revealed for about two weeks-it typically takes that long for the DMV to mail out its ruling.
Bynes, meanwhile, has another hearing scheduled for Thursday for her twin hit-and-run charges. She doesn’t plan on being back from New York in time to attend that one, either.
