Amazon Inks Deal to Stream Fox Movies Online

Published: September 27, 2021

Amazon signs a deal with Fox to stream movies and TV shows on its site. The media will be available to Amazon Prime customers and make itself more competitive with Netflix. An Amazon Prime subscriber pays an annual fee of $79 and for those not Prime subscribers to watch new release movies it will cost a minimum of $3.99 per movie.

Amazon Prime offers free two-day shipping with no minimum purchase for a flat annual fee, as well as discounted one-day shipping rates. Amazon launched the program in the continental United States in 2005, in Japan, the United Kingdom and Germany in 2007, and in France as “Amazon Premium” in 2008. In February 2011, Amazon Prime membership was expanded to include access to instant streaming movies and TV shows at no additional cost.

Amazon said, “the deal with Twentieth Century Fox will bring the total number of instant videos it offers to Prime customers to 11,000.”

Through its paid Instant Video stream service, Amazon offers more than 100,000 new and older titles. In its beef-up to be more competitive with Netflix Amazon has also secured licensing deals with CBS, NBCUniversal, Sony and Warner Bros.

Losing customers because of its move to change pricing for its DVD-by-mail and streaming content, Netflix announced on Monday an exclusive deal to stream movies from DreamWorks Animation. Also, in an effort to salvage the company and compete with Netflix, Blockbuster, is launching a service that bundles DVDs-by-mail and Internet video streaming for as little as $10 per month, the price Netflix charged before it raised its prices.

Jeff Bezos founded, Inc. in 1994, and the site went online in 1995.[5] It is named after the Amazon River, one of the largest rivers in the world.[5] started as an online bookstore, but soon diversified, selling DVDs, CDs, MP3 downloads, computer software, video games, electronics, apparel, furniture, food, and toys.
