Actress Anne Hathaway is on a new diet that limits her to only 500 calories per day in order to drop 16 pounds to play a role in an upcoming movie. Some people, especially health and fitness experts, are criticizing the diet. However, she's on it temporarily and it's a fast-paced weight-loss program.
Anne Hathaway is starring as the character, Fantine in the 2012 movie version of "Les Misérables" and in order to film her death scene in less then month from now, she needs to look a little more frail looking.
"Anne is playing a destitute factory worker [and] lady of the night. Unfortunately, she only has 15 to 20 days to lose as much weight as possible - up to [16 pounds] - because she's been filming the scenes showing her fit and healthy, almost slightly chubby," a source tells The Daily Mirror in the U.K.. "It's not ideal but, as with any high-budget movie, there are strict time constraints."
So she is basically living on fruit and protein shakes in order to drop the weight.
"She is literally eating nothing more than a couple of apples a day, and some protein - mainly in the form of a shake," the source tells the mirror. "Anne knows the risk of such an extreme diet and will undergo weekly medicals to make sure everything is still functioning as it should do."
The movie also stars Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, and Amanda Seyfried and due for release this December.
