Bristol Palin buys new home in Arizona from North Dakota couple. Bristol Palin buys $172,000 five-bedroom home near Phoenix. The recent "Dancing with the Stars" contestant is the sole purchaser.

Palin, 20, closed on the home in early December. She purchased it from Michael and Cynthia Smith. It's not clear if the residence is seasonal or permanent.

"I'm not sure why she wanted to buy that home, but we are real happy for her," former house owner Michael Smith said in a statement. It was built in 2006 and was purchased for about $330,000. It is a 3,900-square-foot residence with a beautiful landscaped front and back yard.

Arizona is the total opposite of where Palin is from. Alaska has colder temperatures while the home near Phoenix can get extremely hot. The new home is a two-level, brown stucco house with a tile roof, 2 1/2 baths, and access to a community pool.
