Bruno Mars Cocaine Charges Dismissed

01/19/2012 10:42 AM ET

Back in late 2010, as singer Bruno Mars was just beginning to gain notoriety, he was embarrassingly busted in Las Vegas at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in a bathroom after a performance and was slapped with charges of felony cocaine possession.

At the time of his arrest he reportedly told officers, that what he did was “foolish” and that he had “never tried drugs before.” During his day in court he pleaded guilty to the charge and in exchange the judge told him that the charge would be taken off his record if he stayed out of trouble for 1 year, completed 200 hours of community service, paid a $2,000 fine, and completed a set of drug counseling classes.

Now a year later Mars, whose real name is Peter Gene Hernandez, has completed all that was required of him, and Judge Jessie Walsh made good on the promise by dismissing the case against him.

The deal was given to Mars because he was a first time offender, and he could have faced up to 4 years in prison for the possession of 2.6 grams of cocaine.

Mars attorney, Blair Berk said the singer, “worked with unspecified children’s charities and health-related organizations to complete his community service.”

Last February, Bruno Mars was nominated for 7 Grammies winning one for ‘Best Male Pop Vocal Performance’ for his hit single “Just the Way You Are” off his debut album.
