Chaz Bono - Former Dancing With the Stars contestant Chaz Bono is threatening to sue the National Enquirer for running a story saying he has four years to live.

Bono’s lawyer, Dina LaPolt, sent the tabloid a cease and desist letter. It accused the magazine of defamation and demanded a printed retraction and apology, as well as a promise to refrain from making such claims about him in the future.

The cover story claimed that Chaz would die within four years due to health issues relating to his gender transition.

“This is absolutely outrageous, false, fabricated, and highly defamatory,” LaPolt wrote. “The salacious and inflammatory headline and article were crafted for the malicious purpose of discriminating against our client’s gender and sexual orientation.”

The letter concluded with the ultimatum of meeting these demands within 24 hours. Otherwise, Chaz will take legal action.

American Media Inc., the Enquirer’s parent company, defended the piece with a statement inviting Bono to respond to the opinions of the medical experts cited.
