Dave Grohl and Taylor Swift have a lot in common, but the Foo Fighters frontman is apparently obsessed with the pop star. The rocker proved that he had a better weekend than most by dedicating three songs to the pop singer at a festival in Britain, according to CNN.
Grohl, 46, and his group headlined Radio 1’s Big Weekend event in Norwich, England and they took to the stage an hour after Swift played a short set at the festival. Dave seems to appreciated everything about Taylor, including her fans.
“I’ve done some weird things in my life but I’ve never before said that Taylor Swift is my opening act … Taylor motherf**king Swift … This one is dedicated to Taylor Swift,” Grohl said, before playing a track called “Congregation”, which they wrote in Swift’s former home of Nashville, Tennessee.
Grohl admitted that he’s obsessed with her and went on to dedicate two more songs to the star throughout the show. The crowd was also into the announcement as they screamed every time Dave said her name.
“My kids would kill me if they found out (Swift was our opening act) … I’m officially obsessed, she might want to get a restraining order … To my opening band, Taylor Swift. Taylor and the Swifts.”
Dave Grohl also vowed to continue his Taylor Swift song campaign by name-checking her every time the band plays “Congregation” in the future, telling the crowd, “I think I might dedicate this song to her every time we play it.”
The night before their headlining gig, Grohl surprised Paul McCartney fans at London’s O2 Arena by coming onstage and performing “I Saw Her Standing There” with the Beatles legend. This is only the second time Dave has performed that song with the legendary artist.
Grohl first permed with McCartney at the 2009 Grammy Awards. It was a rare night because that time Dave was on the drums.
The next day, the Foo Fighters closed out Radio 1’s Big Weekend performing Sunday night after Swift was on stage. It’s a fact that didn’t go unnoticed after Taylor left the stage.
“I’m all about T-Swift. I’m going to dedicate this song to Taylor Swift, how about that?” Dave Grohl said to the cheering crowd. This is why he is so different than most musicians, and that’s a good thing.
In June, Dave Grohl and the Foo Fighters will headline Glastonbury Festival and in July will kickoff a huge North American tour on July 4 in Washington, D.C., and will perform allover the U.S. and some stops in Canada through Oct. 7. Dave Grohl and Taylor Swift will probably play at another festival in the near future.
