The Duggars are heartbroken over the cancellation of TLC’s “19 Kids and Counting” following the disclosure that Jim Bob and Michelle’s oldest son, Josh, had sexually molested several girls. Some of the sisters also came forward with abuse allegations, but the family still wants to return to TV despite something that happened over a decade ago.

The Duggars released a statement after TLC announced the cancellation. But a source said the parents are “heartbroken” over the network’s decision.

“[The family is] heartbroken that they’ve now lost that platform. The Duggars want to return to TV because they truly believe it was part of God’s plan for them to spread the word about their faith,” the source said. “I think Jim Bob and Michelle honestly did expect people to just move on from this. Their thinking is, they put this behind them ages ago, so why wouldn’t the rest of the world?”

The Duggars might be heartbroken after the cancellation, but most viewers of the show were disgusted when the news came out about Josh. A source close to the family said that ratings dropped immediately following the abuse allegations, which also made victims of some of the family’s daughters.

The family did say that Josh received “treatment,” but then most people became skeptical when they appeared to have misrepresented the facts to the police during the criminal investigation. Some fans of the show do have questions about the family.

“Here’s my question about the [the family] way of thinking: if it was God’s plan for them to be on TV, maybe it was God’s plan for them to now be off TV? I mean, if everything that occurs is God’s plan, then shouldn’t they accept what’s now happening as part of His plan too? Just a thought,” a fan wrote.

Heartbroken or not, the family just might end up on a Christian television network. There are rumors indicating that some evangelical producers are trying to pick them up for a show.

Even so, it can still be complicated since they are still under contract with TLC. The network is allowed to cancel a show if there was information kept secret and not revealed before the show was filmed.

The Duggars seem heartbroken because of the cancellation, but they seem more upset that they lost their religious platform than anything else. The 19 Kids and Counting series was one of TLC’s biggest shows, so the network has also been damaged by the scandal.
