A new death rumor surfaced on the Web this week stating that Etta James death rumor had died. She is the latest victim of what seems to be an endless line of Internet celebrity death hoaxes. James’s son confirmed that she is alive and well at the age of 73. She has been diagnosed with dementia and is being treated for leukemia.
A Web site reported that the “At Last” singer had died at the age of 73, having passed away from a long fight with leukemia and dementia. However, It should be noted that the female in the photo on the site was not the singer. Speaking for his mom Donto James told the Los Angeles Times: “She’s fine. I just saw her last night, and she was fine.”
According to the real TMZ: “Our legal department is all over it.”
Due to her illnesses James, has been out of the spotlight for a number of years and is currently being cared for at her home in Riverside, California. On April 7, 2009, Etta James appeared on Dancing with the Stars as a guest performer, singing her classic hit from 1961 “At Last”. Back in May she was hospitalized with a urinary tract infection and the blood infection sepsis and later released.
James’s musical style has changed during the course of her career. When beginning her recording career in the mid-50s, James was marketed as an R&B and doo wop singer. After signing withChess Records in 1960, James broke through as atraditional pop-styled singer, covering jazzand pop music standards on her debut album, At Last!By: Pat Prescott
