“There was something thrilling about taking this piece of work that I’d spent about two years painstakingly putting together with all its eight million LEGO pieces and take a hammer to it and bash it apart and reassemble it into a movie,” Gillian Flynn, the writer of the Gone Girl book and former staff writer for Entertainment Weekly, told the mag.

Affleck, 41, lies next to a dead sexy Rosamund Pike on an autopsy table in the chilling shot. In the Gone Girl movie, Affleck plays Nick Dunne to Pike’s Amy Dunne, as part of a couple that has put their feelings on ice, as it were. When Amy disappears on their fifth anniversary, Nick becomes the main suspect.

As readers of the blockbuster book know, the David Fincher-directed film depicts a husband and wife who have their lives turned upside down once they leave New York City for a new home in the Midwest. On the couple’s fifth wedding anniversary, Amy goes missing, and Nick is quickly tagged by the authorities as the prime suspect in her disappearance.

The movie is due to hit theaters Oct. 3.
