Hugh Laurie - Actor Hugh Laurie may retire from TV once House — Fox Network’s hit medical drama currently in its eighth season — ends.

In a recent interview with the Daily Record, the 52-year-old, who plays the leading role, Dr. House, in the sitcom, said that while he has enjoyed the success of the show, he may be ready to try his hand at working behind the camera for future projects.

“I think I will probably be as interested by either writing or producing or directing, or some other aspect,” Laurie revealed. “I find the whole field of it fascinating.”

Laurie, who according to the Toronto Sun, is one of the richest actors on American TV, reportedly pulling in $250,000 per-episode, added that he wouldn’t be going into the “new-career” blindly. Referring to his familiarity “behind the camera,” the Brit explained:

“We have done 170-odd shows [of House], that’s about 56 feature films’ worth. That’s a huge amount of experience and that sort of experience gives you a confidence in a way.”

Although “House M.D.” was picked up for its eighth season back in May, Hugh Laurie previously suggested it’s likely to be the show’s final season.

Speaking to U.K.’s Radio Times back in May, the actor said:

“The end of (the eighth) season, right now, looks like the end of the show. That is as far as they have got me for.”
