The "Lone Ranger" film starring Johnny Depp as Tonto is now a go again. The Lone Ranger is a fictional masked Texas Ranger who, with his Native American companion Tonto, fights injustice in the American Old West. The character has become an enduring icon of American culture.

Originally, production on the movie was to start this fall. However, Disney but a halt to the start due to budget concerns for the film. Producers had accepted the film to cost $275 million to make which Disney was not happy with.

Now after some renegotiating of Depp's and director Gore Verbinski and producer Jerry Bruckheimer contract's, along with CGI special effects cuts, and a train scene scrapped the budget was knocked down to a tolerable $215 million dollars for Disney. The entire production crew will also be taking a pay cut.

Earlier Depp had told MTV news he knew the budget was going to be a problem. "We knew that the budget was going to be huge initially, and we also knew that it was going to be shut down for a while, and it was kind of like we patiently wait, we shave a little bit here, we do a little bit there, they fix it," he said.

The Hollywood Reporter reported, that there would be no $20 million for Depp, no $10 million apiece for Bruckheimer and Verbinski, as is their norm on tentpoles. In addition, sources told THR that the filmmakers will sacrifice their back-end participation if the film comes in over budget.

Back on track, production will begin in New Mexico next year, with Disney now scrapping its original December 2012 production date. Armie Hammer is still set to play the lead role of the Lone Ranger.
