Lady Gaga Thanks Houston During Grammy Acceptance Speech. Lady Gaga’s acceptance speech for Best Pop Vocal Album left many fans confused. Fans at the Grammys and on Twitter didn’t know what she meant when she thanked Whitney Houston.

Gaga made the comment during the latter part of her Grammy acceptance speech. She thanked Whitney Houston and said she imagined the pop icon singing her newest hit “Born This Way.” Lady claims it ultimately gave her confidence to write the song.

“I wanted to thank Whitney, because when I wrote Born this Way, I imagined she was singing it — because I wasn’t secure enough in myself to imagine I was a superstar. So, Whitney, I imagined you were singing Born This Way when I wrote it,” Gaga said.

Although it may have seemed odd to fans at first, there was a striking resemblance in “Born This Way” to another icon — Madonna. As she entered the stage in an egg for her performance, there was some talk about similarities to Madonna’s hit, “Express Yourself.” In fact, there are many similarities on stage, in costumes, and the hair.
