Larry King Replacement Announced

Larry King replacement is Piers Morgan.

Larry King replacement goes to Piers Morgan. While he would make an adequate replacement for Larry King, the show slot would not be his top priority. Larry King is retiring this fall after 25 years with CNN, and there were other candidates for his replacement.

There have not been any negotiations between CNN and Piers Morgan, and the other potential candidates are still pending. The other candidates include Katie Couric and Ryan Seacrest. However, Morgan has been considered a favorite to replace King since he announced his departure from the prime-time spot.

After 25 years of hosting the “Larry King Live” program the 76-year-old has decided to step down this fall. King announced that he was stepping down on June 29 2010. This was shortly after his wife, Shawn attempted suicide in May 2010. Apparently, she attempted to overdose on prescription pills.

This eastern time slot is a critical for CNN as it struggles to boost its sagging prime-time ratings. Morgan, 45, is a former British tabloid editor who turned to television several years ago. He has since been seen hosting such varied series as “You Can’t Fire Me, I’m Famous” for BBC and doing interview shows and documentaries for ITV. In addition, he has been a judge on “Britain’s Got Talent” and its U.S. spinoff, “America’s Got Talent.” In 2008, he won the competition as a contestant on NBC’s “Celebrity Apprentice,” beating out country music singer Trace Adkins in the finals.
