Lowest Grossing Film For 2012 Might Be Surprising

The lowest grossing box office film of 2012 might surprise you, and while the year has been a big hit for movies, there were several that bombed with audiences in theaters.

For example, the movie “Oogieloves In The BIG Balloon Adventure” for children has taken the title as the lowest-grossing movie release of all time. But it was Tyler Perry’s that shocked most people with “Alex Cross” that made $10 million less than its budget. Gerard Butler’s “Chasing Mavericks” earned just $5 million in total sales, which could’ve done better with a name change.

The film with the worst sales of the year goes to “Playback,” starring Christian Slater, Johnny Pacar, and Toby Hemingway. This horror movie scared so many people away that it only showed up at one movie theater for seven days. It earned a total of $264, selling 33 tickets to those brave enough to watch it for 90 minutes.

The gross sales of the movie doesn’t come close to the $7.5 million budget it had.

While the film “Battleship,” which co-starred RandB artist Rihanna, earned $25.5 million during its opening weekend, it had sunk because of its larger than life film budget.

Disney also suffered through 2012, losing as much as $165 million with the flick “John Carter,” naming it the lowest grossing Disney movie of all time.
