Actor Martin Lawrence and his wife Shamicka are ending their marriage with a divorce after 2 years, according to the actors rep.
Both Martin and Shamicka met in 1997 and have been in a relationship since and have had two children together before deciding to get married in 2010.
“Martin and Shamicka Lawrence have decided to divorce,” the rep told People. “The couple has made the joint decision to part ways.”
The rep went on to tell E! News that the decision to separate was mutual.
“Out of love and respect for one another we will continue to remain friends and raise our two beautiful daughters together,” the couple said in a statement.
This is Lawrence’s second marriage, with his first one that also only lasted for a short time between 1995 and 1997 when he married former Miss Virginia pageant winner Patricia Southall. Lawrence also had a child with Southall at the time.
Martin Lawrence came to fame during the 1990s, establishing a Hollywood career as a leading actor, most notably the films Bad Boys, Blue Streak, and Big Momma’s House. Lawrence has acted in numerous film roles and starred in his own television series, Martin, which ran from 1992 to 1997.
