Michael Douglas is learning from his mistake when it comes to his marriage troubles with Catherina Zeta Jones, but he has grown from it. This comes after Douglas announced a temporary break from Zeta-Jones in 2013.

On June 17, The Christian Post reported that the actors have been married for 14 years. However, “in August 2013, Douglas and Zeta-Jones announced their separation. In the months that followed, both actors continued wearing their wedding bands while 69-year-old Douglas was believed to be actively trying to woo his wife back,” the site said. Fortunately, his hard work paid off.

The 69-year-old spoke reflectively about what he has learned. “First you have to admit that you made a mistake, then dealing with it is easy,” he told The Sun. “Of Course it’s important to make mistakes, as long as you grow from them.”

His comment came after the pair made yet another united appearance at the 42nd AFI Life Achievement Award ceremony, honoring Jane Fonda, last week. The Hollywood icon made a small hint about the pair’s marriage troubles as he used to take the person closest to him “for granted.”

“When you’re older you focus that energy on the people closest to you, on your family,” Douglas said. The married couple were clearly focused on each other as they joined star to honor their close friend, Jane Fona. One picture saw the couple stare at each other with gentle love in their eyes as their hands were linked together.

Douglas and Zeta-Jones are readjusting back to family life as the actor revealed that he got a little bit too excited and injured himself at his son Dylan’s bar mitzvah last month.

After he was seen limping at the Monkey Bar in New York, “I’m hurting. I don’t know whether it’s my groin or a hernia,” he revealed. “I got carried away at my son’s bar mitzvah this weekend. You know they put you up in the chairs over the top — I think something happened there.”

Douglas’ latest work with collaborator Steven Soderbergh was the 2013 film Behind the Candelabra, playing Liberace, opposite Matt Damon, centered on the pianist’s life. His portrayal of Liberace received critical acclaim, which resulted in him receiving the Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or a Movie at the 65th Primetime Emmy Awards.
