An Osbournes VH1 reality show appears to be underway as the Viacom-owned cable network is ready to deliver new episodes for a reboot.
The Osbournes is still one of the most-watched reality shows on the network, according to YAHOO. The show, which earned a 2002 Emmy for outstanding reality program, launched in March 2002 and its freshman run was cited as the most-viewed series ever on MTV at the time. Sharon told ITV’s Loose Women about the new series.
“Ozzy has decided that he wants to do another few episodes, not a whole season, about eight episodes of The Osbournes. He said for the whole three years that we did it he was drunk the whole time, so he said he would like to do one when he’s completely sober as he is now, so we’re like, ‘Yes!’.”
The Osbournes VH1 show has revived with Ozzy, Sharon, Jack and Kelly. The news comes after Sharon Osbourne has been public about the show’s revival, noting that it will likely come back for six or eight episodes. The news comes nearly 10 years after the Osbournes ended their VH1 reality show following a four-season run.
The unscripted series, which at the time followed rocker Ozzy and his wife/manager and their children, helped to launch the careers of Sharon, Jack and Kelly, who are now all firmly ensconced in the entertainment industry.
For her part, the outspoken Sharon Osbourne has been co-hosting CBS’ The Talk since 2010 and served as a judge on the U.K. version of The X Factor. Her syndicated show ran for one season in the U.S. She most recently served as a judge on America’s Got Talent, according to IGN.
The Osbournes VH1 reality show comes as the cable network has found success in the reality space with series including Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta, Basketball Wives and, to a lesser extent, with recent launches Candidly Nicole starring Nicole Richie and LeAnn Rimes and Eddie Cirbian’s Leann & Eddie.
Kelly Osbourne, meanwhile, is a regular on E!’s Fashion Police and also took third on ABC’s Dancing With the Stars in 2009 in addition to working as a singer and actress.
For his part, Jack Osbourne has been a regular on the reality TV circuit, with credits including National Geographic’s Alpha Dogs, ITV2’s Jack Osbourne: Adrenaline Junkie and BBC’s Saving Planet Earth.
Black Sabbath rocker Ozzy became a comedy figure in the VH1 reality show, wandering around the house confused, shouting “Sharon!” There are also times he yelled when the kids ran the vacuum cleaner in the house. And if taking out the trash was a problem for Ozzy, he never replaced the garbage can with a new bag. Instead, he just tossed it in the can and left it there.
The Osbournes VH1 reboot will definitely be interesting. The family most recently teamed for animated series The F’n Osbournes via Canadian animation house Cuppa Coffee Studios. Sharon also mentioned that there are a “few new surprises” in the upcoming series, notes Entertainment Weekly.
