While Barbadian pop star Rihanna was swimming in a pool outside her vacation home, an intruder was seen on the property by security guards who intercepted a German man just 12 feet or so from her location.

“He looked fairly harmless but it was a little too close for comfort,” a witness said in a statement. Authorities were called to the scene.

However, police soon realized that the intruder was not a stalker and posed no threat to Rihanna. He reportedly swam up onto the beach without realizing he was on private property. The man was released.

The singer marked Saturday with a ceremony to commemorate her gift of $1.75 million worth of medical equipment to the island’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital in honor of her grandmother, who died in June. The hospital’s radiotherapy unit was renamed Clara Braithwaite Center for Oncology and Nuclear Medicine, recognizing Riri’s “Gran Gran Dolly,” who succumbed to cancer.

“This was my way of giving back to Barbados in a form of philanthropy, by assisting the QEH in its continued modernization program,” the singer said, according to the Stabroek News out of Guyana.

“I believe that this will have a huge impact on the people of Barbados. This was all done to save lives or at least extend it. … Thank you. I’m really excited about it.”

As for the other incident, it appeared to play on Rihanna’s mind a bit because she was later seen staring out of a pair of binoculars as if keeping watch.
