Robert Schimmel car accident, comedian hospitalized. Robert Schimmel remains in the hospital after a serious car accident. Robert Schimmel's daughter was driving the car when she swerved to avoid another accident.
Schimmel is in serious condition. The accident occurred on an Arizona freeway when his daughter was driving. When the 19-year-old swerved to avoid an accident in her lane, it caused their vehicle to roll over. She was hospitalized and is said to be in stable condition. In addition, Schimmel's 11-year-old son was in the vehicle, he had no injuries.
The comedian is well known for his appearances on HBO and The Howard Stern Show. Schimmel is also a cancer survivor. In 2000, he was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and underwent chemotherapy. He wrote the book "Cancer on $5 a Day (chemo not included): How Humor Got Me Through the Toughest Journey of My Life" about his struggle with the disease.
His family is remaining by his bedside. The stand-up comedian is a father of five, he had six children, but he lost his son Derek to cancer in 1977. He was only 11 years old.
