Playboy Playmate Shanna Marie McLaughlin was arrested at Orlando International Airport Monday after trying to board a plane with a loaded gun. TSA officers discovered a Ruger SAA .45 Colt revolver, loaded with hollow-point bullets, in McLaughlin’s duffel bag as it passed through an X-ray machine. She “spontaneously stated the gun was her boyfriend’s, and she did not know it was in there,” the police report says.

McLaughlin was jailed on a charge of carrying a firearm in a place prohibited by law. Police said McLaughlin does have a valid permit to carry a concealed weapon. She has since been released from jail. She was charged with a misdemeanor.

McLaughlin who was the Playboy Playmate of the Month for July 2010, was booked on a flight headed to Los Angeles.

McLaughlin made national news last year, when she participated in a controversial photoshoot at her alma mater. The steamy shoot, featuring a scantily clad McLaughlin, took place in a UCF locker room. The university later apologized for the shoot after a video of it was featured on the website of Axis magazine, an Orlando entertainment publication.

Some states publish statistics indicating how many residents hold permits to carry concealed weapons, and their demographics. For example, Florida has issued 1,871,589 permits since adopting its law in 1987, and had 767,739 licensed permit holders as of October 31, 2010. Reported permit holders are predominantly male.
