Starship Troopers Remake - Starship Trippers first hit theaters in 1997, but now a remake is reportedly in the works. Miller and Stentz, who have have provided scripts for TV shows like “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles,” “Fringe” and the 2003 film “Agent Cody Banks,” are part of the new film project.

Despite mixed reviews from movie critics, “Starship Troopers” went on to make more than $121 million at the box office worldwide in 1997. The film was also nominated for a visual effects Academy Award the following year, and has since developed a strong cult following.

“Starship Troopers” launched the careers of some of its actors, including Casper Van Dien and Denise Richards.

Neil Patrick Harris also starred in the film, playing Col. Carl Jenkins and best friend to Rico (Van Dien).

The movie also inspired two straight-to-DVD sequels, “Hero of the Federation” (2004) and “Marauder” (2008), but neither excelled anywhere close to the original film’s success and popularity.

Following Friday’s news of the remake, Twitter has been buzzing with mixed reaction.

The remake will follow the footsteps of two other Verhoeven classics. A remake of “RoboCop” is due in 2013, under the direction of Jose Padilha (“The Elite Squad”), while Len Wiseman recently finished making a reboot of “Total Recall,” starring Colin Farrell, Kate Beckinsale, Bryan Cranston and Jessica Biel. The film arrives in theaters next August.
