Thor 2 Release Delays As New Director Found

The 'Thor' 2 release date has been pushed back, and a new director for the film has been found. Marvel Sudio's announced it has pushed the opening of the film back to November 15th 2013. Originally, the movie was slated to open July 26th of that year.

However, Marvel made the move to schedule Thor 2 later in the year to avoid being caught up with the release of several other anticipated block buster films in the same month. Those include Steven Spielberg's Robopocalypse, Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim, and Joseph Kosinski’s Horizons. Marvel may have feared that those movies, which would have opened earlier in the month, would have exhausted movie goers and they would not come back for the Thor sequel.

The studio also announced in a press release that Patty Jenkins will be taking over director's duties from Kenneth Branagh, for Thor 2. Jenkins previously wrote the script and directed 'Monster' which starred Charlize Theron. Theron won the Oscar for her part in the movie, and it was Jenkins' first project.

Jenkins resume also includes, presiding over episodes of Entourage and Arrested Development, and most recently helmed the story "Pearl" in Lifetime's latest original tearjerker, the cancer drama Five.

Furthermore, in the press release Marvel said, "Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman will return to star in the film along with Tom Hiddleston. Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige will produce the sequel to this summer’s blockbuster THOR, which has grossed over $448 million worldwide to date."

In addition to Thor 2, Marvel Studios is currently scheduled to release Marvel's 'The Avenger's' on May 4, 2012, and 'Iron Man 3' which is slated for release on May 3, 2013.
