Top Chef. The Chefs just get dropped right in without really knowing the flow of the show or the styles of the top judges. And that can often disrupt things and take the decisions in the wrong way.
And that could have happened on “Top Chef All-Stars” tonight, but in the end, the regular judges won out and made the right decision.
When the show opened, we met that troublemaking guest judge, Lorena Garcia, chef/restaurateur and one of the investors on “America’s Next Great Restaurant.” She would be the guest judge for the Quickfire Challenge which was to divide into pairs and cook 100 identical dishes in an hour. Padma and Lorena would randomly pick two dishes each to compare their consistency and taste. The winning team would get $5000.
Mike immediately picked Richard because according to him, Antonia is “the black hammer” who sends people to the bottom. That left Antonia with Tiffany.
Mike and Richard actually had cooked pasta, while the girls did what Richard called, “slice and serve”-a piece of meat with a salad. But in the end, Padma and Lorena chose the girls-much to the guys’ chagrin.
But they didn’t have a lot of time to stew about it, as it was time to hear the Elimination Challenge. The chefs would have to cook a lunch incorporating conch to celebrate the 80thanniversary of the Nassau Yacht Club. The theme for the lunch was “Deserted Island,” which is kind of where the chefs would have to cook since it was a beach with no appliances.
