YouTube Movie Rentals

YouTube Movie Rentals - Netflix has new competition as YouTube movie rentals has launched. The video-sharing website is now offering full length movies. The site which is known for having Users upload homemade clips has decided to broaden the span of videos.

Over the next few weeks Youtube will provide rentals of full length movies to US only.

Youtube will be put to the test against other companies that offer full length movie rentals liker Netflix, Apple, and Amazon. This is not the first time Google has attempted to enter the full-length film sharing. They feel that having these full length videos are a good compliment to Youtube’s video sharing network.

In addition they feel it will keep the users on the site for longer periods of time. YouTube chief, Salar Kamangar stated in a blog post, “You’re finding more and more of the content you love on YouTube, which is now available on 350 million devices. We know this because you’re watching videos to the tune of 2 billion views a day. But you’re spending just 15 minutes a day on YouTube, and spending five hours a day watching TV. As the lines between online and offline continue to blur, we think that’s going to change,”

While Google has added 3,000 movie titles most of them are unknown titles. They are what we call D-list schlock, like Curse of the Komodo and Land of the Little People. This raises some question to the decision making of Youtube. While some feel it’s a good idea to add the movies, why put up movies no one wants to watch?
