AT&T Announces Free Mobile Wireless Internet For iPhone Users

Mobile wireless Internet access is now free for Apple 3G iPhone users. The free Wi-Fi service will be available through thousands of AT&T hotspot locations. Users can renew the free service by entering their ten digit mobile phone number.

AT&T Inc on Thursday announced it will offer free mobile wireless Internet access to all Apple Inc iPhone 3G users. The wireless carrier offers over 17,000 hotspots in the United States.

Apple 3G iPhone users will be able to connect to its Wi-Fi network which are found at locations such as Starbucks, Barnes & Noble and McDonalds.

RIM BlackBerry Bold users will get the same access with an unlimited data plan from AT&T. Other BlackBerry mobile devices will get WiFi access later this year.

Mobile wireless Internet access was first announced in July. However, many iPhone users had doubts since AT&T never came through with the free Wi-Fi plan. However, AT&T said the announcement last summer was premature.
AT&T plans to make its mobile wireless Internet free to other mobile devices sometime next year.

Meanwhile, the wireless Internet carrier said it has expanded the number of phones that can access Napster Mobile. The music download service is now available on more than 25 of its handsets, covering more than 13 million customers.
