A soldier’s dog, thought to be in good hands of a friend, was given away while he was on a 9-month deployment in Afghanistan. The dog owner, 1st Lt. Brandon Harker, came home discovered that his yellow Labrador retriever, Oakley, was gone.

On Friday night, Harker made a public plea on Craigslist to get his pet returned. “I’d just like to get him back, safe and sound. That’s about it,” Harker stated.

The soldier kept communication with his friend to check in on Oakley from time to time, but it was never mentioned to him that the dog was given away.

He described that each time his friend would insist that Oakley was “doing good (and) acting like his regular self.”

But tellingly he added, “I’d ask for a picture every now and then. But I never got any pictures sent to me.”

The so-called friend did not come clean about the location of the animal until the 1st Lt. was flying back from overseas.

Harker has described Oakley as being “good with kids and other dogs,” with darker yellow spots on his face and going down his sides and legs.

Oakley, who is around 2-years-old, is officially registered to the soldier and has a microchip which will identify him, if he is found.
