Owners Throw Dogs $5,000 Wedding

Rich people must be running out of things to keep themselves amused, as two dog owners decided to marry their two pets and give them a wedding costing more than $5,000 at the Palm Desert Resort Country Club in California this past Sunday.

As the bride and groom doggies were dressed in a gown and tuxedo, the wedding was complete with 100 guests, a cake, open bar, live band, and even a priest who officiated the ceremony.

The happily married couple is Scruffy owned by Ernie Rubin and Snickers owned by Ann Carter. “I’m not losing a son; I’m gaining a daughter-in-law,” Carter told the paper.

Both Rubin and Carter asked guests attending to make a donation to the local Humane Society in Scruffy and Snickers name in lieu of gifts.

“In planning this event Ernie and Ann wanted to make sure that a charity was involved, and they felt strongly about what we do at the society,” society representative Jennifer Hamilton told the Desert Sun.

“The whole thing just took on a life of its own and kept growing and growing,” Rubin said. “But that was OK because the donations we collected for the shelter were just amazing.”

Another dog named Max, who was a groomsman, is owned by June Berke, who said, “I hope this will enlighten people who take on a pet to realize that they are more than just an animal, they are a lifetime toddler.”
