Eric Warfel Charged: Suspect Arrested, Dad Charged With Abuse Of Corpse With Daughter In Ohio

Eric Warfel was charged after he was arrested while hiding his decomposing child’s body with trash to mask the scent in Medina, Ohio. The father became the primary suspect after authorities found the child’s rotting body found in a crib, according to NBC News.

Warfel, who is being held on a $1 million bond, is now raising suspicion into the death of a previous child. Eric told police that he put his daughter Ember in the crib when she died on or about June 18, but never notified authorities or the rest of the child’s family.

“The fact that a child died previously and now we have another child dead certainly gives rise to a set of suspect circumstances, a high level of suspicion,” said Dean Holman, the Medina County Prosecutor.

Eric Warfel was arrested and charged Wednesday after the 1-year-old child was found decomposed in a Medina apartment. The magistrate also said the father put trash in the room with the child to cover up the smell of the decomposing body.

He was arrested and charged with abuse of a corpse after the child was found at the Forrest Meadows Apartment Homes on East Reagan Parkway Wednesday morning. Police said a worker for an Internet installation company found the body when he went into the apartment to install a new modem.

Warfel was tracked down at Crocker Park in Westlake with his 7-year-old daughter. The body was so badly decomposed that investigators couldn’t tell if the child was a boy or a girl at first.

His child was released to the custody of her grandparents. The magistrate said he is considered a flight risk.

Wednesday night, Medina Police detectives searched a hotel room at the Motel 6 in Middleburg Heights, where Warfel had a room.

Warfel is divorced from Ember’s mother, Malinali Galdamez. Police said she divorced Eric and moved to New York City.

However, what’s more interesting is the fact that the couple lost a 5-month-old girl in Cuyahoga County in 2013. Circumstances surrounding her death are unknown, and authorities in Medina and Cuyahoga Counties are not commenting.

Eric Warfel was arrested and also charged for cocaine that police said they found on him. A witness told authorities that the suspect had been staying at the motel at the time he was arrested.
