A Mystery Machine police chase in California was led by a 51-year-old woman who was wanted for a probation violation. The chase occurred in Shasta County as Sharon Kay Turman led law enforcement officers in a van painted with Scooby Doo, according to FOX News.

On Sunday at 12:50 p.m., a probation officer with Shasta County Probation contacted the Redding Police Department regarding the probation violation. That’s when the chase with the Mystery Machine began.

According to police, Turman was found operating the 1994 Chrysler minivan painted teal and green as the Mystery Machine in the area of California Street and Shasta Street.

When officers tried to conduct a traffic stop, the Mystery Machine police chase began. A pursuit began as Turman sped through South Market Street, said police.

The Mystery Machine chase came to a stop near Buenaventura and Highway 273, but Turman continued to speed southbound on Highway 273, said police. Turman drove through an intersection against a red light hitting four other vehicles.

The California Highway Patrol helicopter later located the van at Hill Drive just north of Anderson. Officers said Turman then continued the Mystery Machine chase through the city of Anderson and onto Interstate 5 at speeds over 100 mph. Turman continued onto Highway 36 westbound, where she was spotted by the CHP helicopter abandoning her vehicle, said officers.

More officers joined in, and they needed to know what kind of vehicle they were Mystery Machine chasing. Over the radio, they were told, “It’s almost teal green ’90 Dodge Caravan. It had yellow paint splattered on the side. Look for Scooby Doo nonsense.”

The Mystery Machine plowed down the highway. From the police radio: “To be specific, it’s supposed to be the Mystery Machine from Scooby Doo.”

That’s when Turman had four units chasing her on the ground, and a California Highway Patrol helicopter above. Other officers started to stage a few miles down when the chase was called off because of safety concerns.

“Trying to warn them. Trying to warn them,” officers heard over the radio. “Holy cow - she almost just took out a vehicle, blew the light at about 70.” Turman almost caused multiple crashes before she abandoned the Mystery Machine. And like one of the ghouls in the cartoon series, she vanished.

Turman is still on the run, and police are asking anyone who may know where she is to call them. No word on if Scooby-Doo and the rest of the Mystery Machine gang are on the case.

The Mystery Machine police chase ended with Turman disappearing and her current whereabouts unknown. She is wanted by the Redding Police Department as well as Shasta County Probation. Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Sharon Kay Turnman is encouraged to contact the Redding Police Department at (530)225-4200 or Secret Witness of Shasta County at (530)243-2319.
