Tom Harrison War Medals After 66 Years

Tom Harrison War Medals - Utah World War II veteran Tom Harrison, 93, has finally received his war medals after 66 years. In fact, he is still reliving the triumphs and horrors of his service overseas after mysteriously receiving seven service medals. The package arrived earlier this month containing the precious gems with no explanation.

Harrison says he never applied for the medals after his discharge from the Army in 1945 because he wanted to put the war behind him and focus on his family and career.

Harrison survived the Bataan Death March and more than three years in a Japanese prisoner of war camp.

Retired 1st Sgt. Dennis Meeks, who works for a South Carolina-based medal supplier, says many veterans received ribbons but not medals when they were discharged.

Often, family members request the medals decades later.
