Jeremy Bernard White House Social Secretary. Jeremy Bernard has been named White House social secretary by President Obama. It seems that the administration has kept the tradition of making groundbreaking choices for the official party planner.

Jeremy Bernard, who was officially named the new social secretary by the White House on Friday afternoon, is not only the first openly gay person to be named to the post but also the first man.

The former Democratic fund-raiser in Los Angeles previously worked as the White House liaison to the National Endowment for the Humanities, according to the Los Angeles Times.

“Jeremy shares our vision for the White House as the People’s House, one that celebrates our history and culture in dynamic and inclusive ways,” Obama said in a statement. “We look forward to Jeremy continuing to showcase America’s arts and culture to our nation and the world through the many events at the White House.”

Bernard is the President’s third social secretary in his first two years in office. The administration’s first social secretary, Desiree Rogers, left after a scandal-filled year that included letting a wanna-be reality-star couple into a state dinner. Smoot is stepping down to help Obama’s reelection efforts in Chicago, the administration said earlier this year.

Jonathan Capehart, a columnist for the Washington Post, wrote that he has been friends with Bernard for years.
