Notorious B.I.G. Apartment In Brooklyn Listed For Sale

Notorious B.I.G., whose real name was Christopher Wallace, grew up in 3 bedroom apartment in Brooklyn and now it’s been listed at a price of $725,000.

It’s in what the listing calls a “lovely limestone eight-unit building,” in the gentrifying area of Brooklyn that’s now known as Clinton Hill, on the border with Bedford-Stuyvesant.

The neighborhood has prospered enormously since his childhood — but his mother, Voletta Wallace, acknowledged long ago that the late rapper was exercising some poetic license.

“Eleven days after his birth, Ms. Wallace took her son to the place that he would call home for the next 20 years. Theirs was a spacious apartment, with a large living room, a dining area, a study, and three bedrooms. The one opposite the kitchen on the far end of the hall was Christopher’s,” Wallace said.

The current owners are “very lovable people,” listing agent Judith Lief said. One of them teaches at an elementary school. No word why they’re selling, but Lief does say that tour buses stop by regularly.

If the place sells for the asking price, the owners stand to gain about $300,000; it last sold in 2004 for $425,000. The unit has been renovated since then, but real estate experts say that the price might reflect a premium for the celebrity history.

The price for the apartment may be high for some, but it offers a piece of music history.
